Quick tips to help you sleep
You're lying in bed and just can't get to sleep. Your mind is racing, you're sweating and you keep rolling around without the ability to shut everything down. Does this sound familiar?
There are many reasons you might be struggling to get your mind to fall asleep and there are lots of tips and tricks to help improve sleep. But, when you're in this position, you need something that will work quickly. In this blog, we'll discuss some tips to help ease your mind when these moments hit.
When your mind is racing
If this is the case, consider pulling out a journal. Write everything down that's on your mind. You can keep the journal next to your bed for any moments like these. Just writing your thoughts down may be enough to get them off of your mind and allow you to rest easy. If journaling isn't working or you prefer another avenue, consider meditating. Try to focus on calming your mind and clearing out the clutter. You may choose to listen to soothing music to help you do this.
When you're sweating
If you're feeling a little too hot, instead of just taking off some covers, try adjusting the temperature or putting a fan on. Your body may be too hot to allow you to rest easy. A fan can have an added bonus, providing a little white noise to aid with sleep. Keep in mind, the recommended sleep temperature for adults is between 60-67 degrees.
When nothing works
When you've tried several things to fall asleep and nothing is working, get up. Sometimes your mind won't shut down until you get up and move around, as backward as that may sound. Try doing some light reading or doing something else calming. Keep the lights on dim and don't look at your mobile devices, TV screens or even your clock. Taking this reprieve may be enough to help your mind rest easy when you lay back down.
These are just a few quick tips for those nights when you just can't seem to fall asleep. We hope you found them helpful.
