What's the Difference Between a King and a California King?
One of the most misunderstood sizes in our industry is the difference between a King and California King. Most people think a California King is larger both in its width and length than a regular king when in fact a California King is actually 4″ narrower than a regular king (sometimes called an Eastern King).
A California King is 4″ longer than a regular king making it ideal for taller individuals (over 6′ 2-4″). You do give up 4” of side-to-side space though. Another misconception is two twin foundations (box springs) will work for a king mattress. Notice that twin foundations are 6″ shorter than king foundations.
