Tips for finding the right pillow

Are you on the hunt for a new pillow? Finding the right pillow is important. The ideal pillow can have a positive impact on your sleep. That's why we wanted to take some time to discuss some things to consider when you're pillow shopping.

One of the key things to consider when you're shopping around is which position you usually sleep in. Are you a stomach, side, or back sleeper? Knowing the position you sleep in can help you narrow down the search.

Side sleepers. If you sleep on your side, you'll want to find a pillow that is full enough to fill the space between your shoulder and your ear. A firmer pillow is ideal for this sleeping position.

Back sleepers. Now, if you're a back sleeper, you'll probably want a pillow that has a little less filling since you don't have the shoulder gap to account for. In this position, it's important to get a pillow that provides support for your neck and head without elevating your head too much and extending your neck. Back sleepers tend to benefit more from softer pillows.

Stomach sleepers. Stomach sleepers also want a softer pillow or they may opt to skip the pillow altogether. If you sleep on your stomach, you'll also want to consider adding a pillow to support your stomach and pelvis. This position can be difficult for your body and make it harder to stay in alignment, which is why the added support is helpful.

Beyond your sleeping position, you may want to think about the different types of filling that each pillow has. Pillows can be filled with down, synthetic down, memory foam, latex, wool, cotton, or polyester. Certain fills, such as down and synthetic down, offer a lighter weight pillow. Other fills, such as memory foam and latex, are a bit heavier. Different fills provide varying comfort levels. It may take a bit of trial and error to find something that appeals to you.

When searching for a new pillow, it's also important to consider your mattress. The pillow should pair well with it. Often, a soft pillow pairs with a firm mattress, and vice versa.

Two other things to keep in mind while shopping for a new pillow are the quality and if you have allergies. You want to do plenty of research to ensure the pillow you get has great ratings or reviews. Another thing you may want to consider is how it's made. If you are prone to allergies, be careful about the pillow you choose. (Ie: research the materials it's made from, where it was made, and the manufacturing process).

As you can see, there are plenty of things to keep in mind when shopping for a new pillow. We hope this helps you narrow it down and find the pillow of your dreams.
