Ready to set goals for the new year?

The new year is fast approaching which means most of us will be setting goals. Usually, these goals are set around areas of improvement. Often, the objectives have to do with losing weight. Many of us wish to lose a few pounds so we feel better about ourselves and healthier overall. There's actually another thing that can achieve both of these things as well –– a good night of sleep.

When you get enough sleep, it can help you feel better mentally and physically. You have more energy to get things done throughout the day. You're less likely to feel yucky and irritable. It reduces your risk of feeling depressed and anxious. Plus, if you get enough sleep, you're less likely to reach for junk food and sugary sodas to keep going throughout the day. Overall, sleep is good for your health. It even helps you have more energy so you're able to exercise.

When you set your goals for the new year, we suggest making sleep a priority. Even if you want to lose weight, adding sleep to the agenda may help you succeed.

There are a number of ways to improve your sleep and make your goals come true. Stick to a bedtime routine. Set yourself a bedtime and wake time. Know how much time you need to complete all your before bedtime tasks, so you set aside enough time. Set a reminder on your phone to let you know when it's time to start your bedtime routine. Figure out if anything is impeding you from getting a good night's sleep. Is your room cool enough? Do you have white noise to drown out other sounds that might wake you up? Do you have darkening curtains so it's not too bright in there? Is your mattress comfortable or do you need a new one?

To stick to your goals, set one primary goal and then start with smaller goals to get you there. See if you can find someone to help you stay accountable. Here's an example: Say you want to go to bed by 10 pm every night so you get eight hours of sleep. If you're currently going to bed at 11:30 pm, work your way back. Start with about 30 minutes at a time. So, your first goal is to go to bed by 11 pm every night, then 10:30 pm, then 10 pm This helps your goal feel more attainable. You can ask a loved one to check in on you and see how you're doing with your goals.

We may not be able to help you achieve your goals, but we can help if you're in need of a new mattress. Come see us at Mattress Dealzz.
